Dear Neighbor,

This week has been very productive in both Albany and in the 29th Senate District.

I was happy to participate in a wonderful Health and Wellness festival with PS 11x in Highbridge. Events like this are vitally important for building and engaging communities around the important issue of health, especially for our young students. Physical fitness, healthy foods, and access to quality healthcare are the pillars of a strong community, and I will continue to work to ensure that we have the resources needed to achieve that.

In Albany, I am very proud to have sponsored and debated the Budget Extender bills that allow for the functioning of the state government while we work toward a final enacted budget. It is a tremendous honor to sponsor these bills, which are so critically important to ensure that basic services can continue to be provided for the people of our state.

Additionally, we held Adirondack Day in Albany! For years, I have been proud to sponsor this annual event that celebrates all that is amazing about the Adirondack mountains and the many communities within it. From outdoor recreation, to arts and culture, the Adirondacks have something for everyone.

Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any feedback or suggestions. As always, my staff and I are available to assist with any constituent issues you may have. We can be reached Monday - Friday, from 9am-5pm at our District Office, or by calling us at 212-828-5829.

Yours in progress,

Senator José M. Serrano

Chair of the Majority Conference

Budget Extension Bill Debates

Senator Serrano is proud to have introduced and defended three separate budget extender bills this month, which allow for the continued functioning of the state government during ongoing budget negotiations. These measures are essential to ensure that critical services, including state payroll, Medicaid, and school funding remain uninterrupted. Senator Serrano also answered questions from colleagues regarding the current status of budget negotiations as the conference continues to work towards a budget that benefits all New Yorkers.

Senator Serrano was pleased to join the Bronx Children's Museum for MS NOW’s special taping of “All In with Chris Hayes,” featuring Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The interview offered an in-depth look at Mayor Mamdani’s first 100 days in office, providing valuable insight into the state of New York City and the administration’s goals for the next four years.

Key topics included crime reduction, infrastructure improvements, and the announcement of city-owned grocery stores, including one in the 29th Senate District. Senator Serrano extends his gratitude to the Bronx Children’s Museum for hosting this engaging event.

P.S. 011X Highbridge’s 4th Annual Family Wellness Day

Senator Serrano was happy to participate in P.S. 011X Highbridge’s 4th Annual Family Wellness Day, a vibrant community event focused on health, wellness, and neighborhood connection. The celebration featured activities, music, and various resources for families, while encouraging engagement with nature and healthy living.

It was his pleasure to present a Senate proclamation in recognition of P.S. 11’s Annual Wellness Day and their work to promote mental health awareness, strengthen community bonds, and foster meaningful connections. Senator Serrano extends his utmost gratitude to the students, families, faculty, and P.S. 11 staff, and to everyone who helped make the day a success.

Adirondack Day

Senator Serrano was honored to once again sponsor Adirondack Day in Albany. As Chair of the Senate Committee on Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks and Recreation, he remains committed to ensuring that all New Yorkers have opportunities to easily and meaningfully connect with nature.

The Adirondacks showcase the very best of New York State, offering world-class outdoor recreation alongside rich cultural, historic, and culinary experiences. Senator Serrano thanks the organizers of this annual event, as well as his colleagues in the Senate and Assembly who joined in support of the Adirondack region.

NYC District Council of Carpenters Legislative Annual Reception

Senator Serrano was pleased to meet with members of the NYC District Council of Carpenters at their Annual Legislative Reception. The discussion focused on key priorities for strengthening worker protections, restoring accountability through Project Labor Agreements, and addressing Tier 6 pension reform.

The NYC District Council of Carpenters plays a vital role in supporting union members across New York City and in our district by advocating for fair labor standards and safe working conditions. Senator Serrano appreciates the opportunity and remains committed to advancing policies that protect and uplift working New Yorkers.

I Love My Park Day Resolution

Senator Serrano was proud to have the New York State Senate pass his resolution, J.1934, which will recognize May 2, 2026 as I Love My Park Day in the State of New York. I Love My Park Day is a day where everyone can become a steward for their own parks and open spaces. There is always a tremendous amount of support and volunteerism for this vital clean up. As Chair of the Senate Committee on Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks and Recreation, Senator Serrano believes in the economic and mental health benefits that access to open spaces and time spent in nature offers.
