Dear Neighbor,

I hope you are having a great spring and enjoying the warmer temperatures.

In Albany we are moving to finalize our state budget after a very long and arduous process. While it has taken us longer to complete this budget, I feel it is critically important to have a budget that reflects the needs of the people of the 29th Senate District. Deadlines are important, but a good budget is even more important.

In the District we have been very busy with constituent services and community events. Our constituent services team has been doing an amazing job connecting with residents, and ensuring their needs are met and addressed. As always, feel free to reach out to us with any issues or concerns. We are here to help!

Yours in progress,

Senator José M. Serrano

Chair of the Majority Conference

Second Annual Dogs of Mott Haven Community Earth Day Clean-Up

Senator Serrano was excited to support the Second Annual Dogs of Mott Haven Community Earth Day Clean-Up, where volunteers gathered under the Willis Avenue Bridge to collect trash, remove graffiti, and clear debris, helping improve safety and cleanliness in the area. The event also included the installation of dog waste bag stations to promote long-term street cleanliness and responsible pet ownership.

Budget Extension Bill Debates

Senator Serrano continues to introduce and defend budget extender bills as negotiations on the FY2027 State Budget remain ongoing. These extender bills are critical to ensuring the uninterrupted operation of state government, including state payroll, Medicaid services, and school funding.

Throughout negotiations, Senator Serrano has continued working alongside colleagues to advance a final budget that delivers meaningful investments for our communities across New York, including funding for housing, education, healthcare, public safety, the arts, and essential services that we rely on every day.

Meeting with Housing Justice for All

Senator Serrano was pleased to meet with members of the Housing Justice for All coalition who traveled to Albany to advocate for increased funding for the Housing Access Voucher Program.

With many families across the 29th Senate District facing housing insecurity and rising housing costs, Senator Serrano appreciated the coalition’s continued advocacy for stronger tenant protections and expanded access to stable affordable housing.

Museums Make New York: The State of Culture Conference

Senator Serrano was pleased to participate in Museums Make New York: The State of Culture, a statewide gathering at the New York State Museum that brought together over 300 museum leaders, professionals, students, artists, advocates, and cultural partners from across New York.

During the conference, Senator Serrano spoke about the importance of continued investments in the arts and highlighted the role museums play as vital community hubs that foster education, culture, creativity, and connection for all.
