LEGISLATIVE UPDATE FROM ALBANY
During the final week of 2022, Governor Hochul signed into law two bills sponsored by Senator Persaud:
Home Visiting Work Activities. S. 9106 (Persaud) / A. 2549 (Fahy), signed to Chapter 819, Laws of 2022, will require that all parents applying for or receiving public assistance are provided with information about home visitation programs and services. This new law will allow home visiting activities to count toward work activity requirements as well as establishes program eligibility for parents who are currently exempt from work activities. Effective immediately.
Minimum Standards for Code Enforcement Personnel. S. 532-A (Persaud) / A. 276-A (Zebrowski), signed to Chapter 797, Laws of 2022, requires the Secretary of State to enact regulations regarding code enforcement to include mandatory training, continuing education and maintaining necessary certifications. The bill would also prohibit continued employment for code enforcement personnel where required certifications and credentials are suspended, revoked, or not renewed. Effective date: April 27, 2023.
