Become a Trooper
 

The New York State Police is accepting applications for the next Trooper entrance examination. Applications will be accepted until October 1, with examinations available in July until mid-October.
The exam is offered in a computerized format at 54 testing centers throughout New York State, in addition to more than 250 centers in the United States and 112 military locations worldwide. Candidates will be able to choose a testing center location, date and time that is most convenient for them.
Applicants can learn more about the process, the qualifications, and can apply to take the Trooper entrance exam by visiting www.joinstatepolice.ny.gov.

HEAP Cooling Assistance Program

Eligible households can get help to buy and install an air conditioner or fan. The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) provides a limited number of units on a first-come, first-served basis.

You can apply online, by mail, or in-person. If you submit an application, you will receive the HEAP Cooling Assistance Notice of Eligibility Decision after your application is reviewed.

NYC Civil Service Exam

The New York City Bridge Exam is designed to allow you to take one multiple-choice test for multiple titles and have your name appear on various civil service lists simultaneously if you meet the minimum qualification requirements. With this new and innovative approach, you will submit one application for the New York City Bridge Exam during the application period. On the day of the multiple-choice test, you will choose the title(s) you wish to be considered for. The deadline to register for this exam is July 18th. Apply here

Free Summer Meals

Breakfast and lunch will continue beyond the instructional school year. Our Summer Meals Program is available throughout New York City to anyone ages 18 years old and under. Designated public schools, community pool centers, parks, and food trucks will be open for service. No registration, documentation, or ID is necessary to receive a free breakfast or lunch meal.

Governor Hochul Announces Civil Service Exam Fees Now Waived Through 2025
 

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that civil service exam application fees are now waived for all New York State Civil Service Exams, through December 2025.

Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP)

The Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) helps low-income households pay the cost of water and sewer services. The program can assist households who have past due bills (arrears) for water and/or sewer services.

Visit July 11, 2023

On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, Senator Persaud and staffer Jennifer visited Kingsborough Community College to see firsthand the activities of the YESSS program for youth. This visit was hosted by the Department of Workforce Development, Continuing Education & Strategic Partnerships, and the Maritime Technology Program. The YESSS program is geared toward training the next generation of environmental and maritime stewards to become protectors of the natural environment through knowledge, conversation, and sustainable practices.

On Saturday, July 8, 2023, Senator Persaud attended the Pastoral Installation of Pastor Ernie Wright as the Pastor of Beulah SDA Church. Senator Persaud welcomed and congratulated Pastor Wright on his assignment before presenting him with a New York Senate Proclamation.

Shredding Event July 8, 2023 

On Saturday July 8, 2023, Senator Persaud partnered with Congressman Hakeem Jeffries and several of her colleagues for this shredding event. These free services are offered across the district to allow for the safe and confidential disposal of personal documents. It is one step to curbing identity theft.

 On Saturday, July 8, 2023, Senator Persaud attended The Guyanese Nurses Association of America Inc. 40th Anniversary Scholarship Alumni Reunion celebration. Senator Persaud presented a New York State Proclamation to President Sharon Giles - Bovel and her team to commemorate this important milestone.

Upcoming Alternate L Service on Weekends; Crane Locations for Track Replacement Project

When:   Weekends in 2023 from 11:30 p.m. Friday until 5:00 a.m. Monday:

               July 14-17, July 28-31, August 11-14, August 25-28

What:    L trains will operate from 8th Avenue in Manhattan to Myrtle Avenue

               Fare-free shuttle buses will replace L service from Myrtle Avenue to Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway

Information will be posted along the L line and will be available at all affected stations.  Also, customers can check for any updates on this alternate service at all times by visiting our website at new.mta.info

In conjunction with the ADA project, the MTA has scheduled mainline track repairs between the Livonia Avenue and Sutter Avenue stations.
