Senator Persaud Grant Funding 

Charitable groups in Southeastern Brooklyn who provide services across SD19 have received more than $500,000 in operating grants due to the efforts of Senator Roxanne J Persaud.

Governor Hochul Announces Fare Free Bus Routes Included in MTA Pilot

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the MTA will begin its fare free bus pilot on five routes, one in each borough, that will now collectively serve 43,900 daily weekday riders by late September this year for a period of six to 12 months. Routes were chosen based on a variety of factors, including ridership, fare evasion, service adequacy, equity for low-income and economically disadvantaged communities, and access to employment and commercial activity. The B60 bus that services areas in SD19 was chosen for the program.

Governor Hochul Announces Civil Service Exam Fees Now Waived Through 2025
 

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that civil service exam application fees are now waived for all New York State Civil Service Exams, through December 2025.

Become a Trooper
 

The New York State Police is accepting applications for the next Trooper entrance examination. Applications will be accepted until October 1, with examinations available in July until mid-October.
The exam is offered in a computerized format at 54 testing centers throughout New York State, in addition to more than 250 centers in the United States and 112 military locations worldwide. Candidates will be able to choose a testing center location, date and time that is most convenient for them.
Applicants can learn more about the process, the qualifications, and can apply to take the Trooper entrance exam by visiting www.joinstatepolice.ny.gov.

HEAP Cooling Assistance Program

Eligible households can get help to buy and install an air conditioner or fan. The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) provides a limited number of units on a first-come, first-served basis.

You can apply online, by mail, or in-person. If you submit an application, you will receive the HEAP Cooling Assistance Notice of Eligibility Decision after your application is reviewed.

The affordable housing lottery has launched for Help One Building A, a nine-story mixed-use building at 273 Snediker Avenue in East New York, Brooklyn. Designed by Curtis + Ginsberg Architects and developed by Help USA, the structure yields 184 residences. Available on NYC Housing Connect are 72 units for residents at 40 to 60 percent of the area median income (AMI), ranging in eligible income from $23,143 to $91,500.

 Did you know that hypertension (also known as high blood pressure) impacts nearly 45% of adults and is a major risk factor for stroke and heart attack? Join us for our hypertension 101 workshop with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. In this workshop, participants will learn tips on how to prevent and control hypertension, how to accurately measure your blood pressure and more! 

All families are welcome to participate! Small children (0-7yrs) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Breakfast and lunch will continue beyond the instructional school year. Our Summer Meals Program is available throughout New York City to anyone ages 18 years old and under. Designated public schools, community pool centers, parks, and food trucks will be open for service. No registration, documentation, or ID is necessary to receive a free breakfast or lunch meal.

On Monday July 24, 2023, Senator Persaud and staffer Sandy attended the Glenmore Manor groundbreaking ceremony. The Brownsville community came out to celebrate the project which will have 225 units of affordable housing. There will be supportive housing, senior housing, a community radio station, Healthcare, dining, trade school, spa, Brownsville Hub and more. This undertaking was done by Brisa, Erica Keller, and other partners

 Senator Persaud Rain Barrel, Hydra Barrier and Compost Giveaway
July 17, 2023

On Saturday, July 22, 2023, Senator Persaud hosted the annual Rain Barrel, hydra barrier, and compost giveaway event. Thanks to the dedicated SD19 staff and volunteers who all worked diligently. It was great to partner with the NYC Compost Project hosted by the New York City Department of Sanitation & Lower East Side Ecology Center (LES) to educate the public on the use of compost.
Thanks to the Department of Environmental Protection- NYC Water for providing the rain barrels, hydra barriers, and information for distribution. Lastly, thanks to the constituents who registered and received rain barrels. The office looks forward to next year's allocation, where more constituents can join in saving water by using rain barrels to collect rainwater for use in gardens, etc.

Upcoming Alternate L Service on Weekends; Crane Locations for Track Replacement Project

When:   Weekends in 2023 from 11:30 p.m. Friday until 5:00 a.m. Monday:

              July 28-31, August 11-14, August 25-28

What:    L trains will operate from 8th Avenue in Manhattan to Myrtle Avenue

               Fare-free shuttle buses will replace L service from Myrtle Avenue to Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway

Information will be posted along the L line and will be available at all affected stations.  Also, customers can check for any updates on this alternate service at all times by visiting our website at new.mta.info

In conjunction with the ADA project, the MTA has scheduled mainline track repairs between the Livonia Avenue and Sutter Avenue stations.
