Ahead of the scheduled Session end date of June 8th, the Senate was in Albany this week to vote on myriad bills ranging from protections and services for workers, mothers, veterans and crime victims, to name a few. Many of the Senate’s Committees have concluded their legislative work for the year, though some Committees held meetings to approve gubernatorial nominations to various agencies and governing boards. The Senate also approved a number of Senator Persaud’s priority bills including, but not limited to:
S.2143 would direct the Dept. of Labor to contract with a third party to collect and analyze data for a self-sufficiency standard study. A self-sufficiency standard measures how much income is necessary for a family of a given size in a given geographic location to adequately meet its basic needs without public or private assistance.
S. 2144 would create a six-month 100% earned income disregard that would “ramp down” public benefits for New Yorkers entering or reentering the workforce.
S.6424-B would expand the membership of the Interagency Task Force on Human Trafficking to include the Commissioners of the Dept. of Transportation (DOT) and Dept. of Motor Vehicles (DMV), the Secretary of State, and the NYS Thruway Authority.
S.5992 would allow a person who is admitted to a maternal health care facility for delivery and/or inpatient care post-delivery to designate a doula to have access to such person.
S.5991 would allow a person who is having a cesarean section to designate a doula to be in the operating room with them during the duration of such cesarean section if no other support person is available to them. It also would require all maternal healthcare facilities to post this information in their webpage, lobby and/or patient waiting area.
S.1193 would state that no person with a personal history of ovarian cancer shall be denied genetic testing or genetic tumor profiling for inherited mutations.
