NYC Civil Service Exam

The New York City Bridge Exam is designed to allow you to take one multiple-choice test for multiple titles and have your name appear on various civil service lists simultaneously if you meet the minimum qualification requirements. With this new and innovative approach, you will submit one application for the New York City Bridge Exam during the application period. On the day of the multiple-choice test, you will choose the title(s) you wish to be considered for. The deadline to register for this exam is July 18th. Apply here

Expecting Relief
 

Expecting Relief is ecstatic to announce our Grand Opening July 7th at our new location of operations. We are so thankful to have received a donated space by Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation allowing us to become a more stable and reliable community resource. Providing a safe space with your basic needed essentials available for low to median income families will help reduce poverty.

We invite you to come out and view the space from 11-2pm, followed by our food, diapers and pads distribution at 2pm.

Free Summer Meals

Free Summer Meals Starts June 28
Breakfast and lunch will continue beyond the instructional school year. Our Summer Meals Program is available throughout New York City to anyone ages 18 years old and under. Designated public schools, community pool centers, parks, and food trucks will be open for service. No registration, documentation, or ID is necessary to receive a free breakfast or lunch meal.

Caribbean American Heritage Celebration

On June 29, 2023, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez hosted a spectacular Caribbean American Heritage Celebration on the rooftop of the Brooklyn Children's Museum. Sandy attended the event where Caribbean enhancing the rich tapestry and shaping the Brooklyn borough were honored. 
 
3 Lots Photo Exhibition Opening & Artist Talk

On June 30, 2023, Jennifer attended the 3 Lots Photo Exhibition Opening & Artist Talk with local photographer Elliott Golden. “3 Lots,” is a case study of three vacant lots in East New York. 3 Lots will be on view and open to the public during library hours June 29 - July 28th, 2023.

On Thursday June 29, 2023, Senator Persaud and staffer Tanequa attended the groundbreaking at Thomas Jefferson High School Athletic Field. The event was to commemorate the multi-million-dollar commitment to renovate and upgrade the athletic complex and football field in two separate phases.   
 
2nd Annual Caribbean American Heritage Month Celebration Kings Plaza Shopping Mall 
June 28, 2023

On Wednesday June 29, 2023, Senator Persaud attended the 2nd Annual Caribbean American Heritage Month celebration hosted by the Kings Shopping Mall where they honored members of the community. The evening included performances, light refreshments, and an award recognition ceremony. Among the honorees, were Kamla Millwood representing St. Vincent and the Grenadines who was my nominee, Clover Dewar representing Jamaica nominated by Assembly Member Jaime Williams and Felina Backer representing Haiti, nominated by Council Member Mercedes Narcisse. After delivering remarks, Senator Kevin Parker and I presented Kamla with her award to kick off the presentations. Thank you to the honorees for their contributions to our communities.   
 
Ice Cream Social Brooklyn Public Library

On Wednesday June 28, 2023, staffer Alex attended the Ice Cream social at the Brooklyn Public Library- New Lots Branch. Kids played games and had an enjoyable time. Make sure you visit the libraries as they are a free source of family entertainment.

Jewel Streets Neighborhood

June 24, 2023

On Saturday June 24, 2023, staffer Christine attended the Jewel Streets Neighborhood Meeting / Workshop. The Jewel Streets refer to the north-south streets named after various jewels: Ruby, Emerald, Amber, and Sapphire Streets. The 12-block neighborhood straddles East New York, Brooklyn and Lindenwood, Queens and is known to residents as “The Hole” due to its sunken streets. This was the first of many meetings where city agencies will be connecting with residents to go over the neighborhood plan to revitalize and transform the area.

DSNY July 4th  Update 
 

The New York City Department of Sanitation announced the following trash, compost and recycling collection service updates for the Independence Day holiday on Tuesday, July 4, 2023:

·Residents who normally receive Tuesday trash and compost collection should place their material at the curb Tuesday night for collection beginning on Wednesday, July 5. Residents may experience delays, as is common after holidays. We appreciate patience as we work to collect the backlog of material.

 · Residents who normally receive Tuesday recycling collection should hold their material until the following Tuesday's recycling collection, and place it out curbside the night of Monday, July 10 for pickup on Tuesday, July 11.

Now, new research reveals that Google has violated its promised standards when placing video ads on other websites, raising serious concerns about the transparency and integrity of the tech giant’s online ad business.
