Cancer knows no political party. It touches families in every community, regardless of background or belief. That’s why it takes compassion, collaboration, and a shared commitment to make progress in prevention, treatment, and support.

I joined survivors, advocates, and community leaders at the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester’s Legislative Reception, where stories of strength and resilience reminded us why this fight matters.

As a past recipient of the Harriet Susskind-Rosenblum Advocate's Spirit Award, I remain deeply committed to supporting those affected by cancer and advancing policies that bring hope, resources, and healing to families across New York.

Municipal Clerks are often the first people residents turn to when they need help, answers, or direction. They’re the problem-solvers who keep our towns, villages, and cities running smoothly every single day.

Hosting our clerks allows me to thank them for their work and partnership and to have a candid conversation about the challenges and opportunities they face.  

Elections Commissioners Adeline Rudolph, Ontario County, Gary Nageldinger, Livingston County, and Peter Elder, Monroe County, provided election law updates and answered questions about the new even-year election requirements.

Other discussion topics included the impacts of NYS's all-electric mandates, public safety and the importance of implementing the PROTECT Act.

Along with Wayne County apples donated by Van De Walle Fruit Farm, we distributed copies of our new Municipal Grant Guide.

Onondaga County was the third stop on my statewide tour to get the PROTECT Act passed. I was joined by County Executive Ryan McMahon, District Attorney William Fitzpatrick, Sheriff Toby Shelley, Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter, Madison County Sheriff Todd Hood, Syracuse Police Chief Joe Cecile, Onondaga County Legislature Chairman Tim Burtis, and many community advocates.

The Senate Commendation Award is reserved for individuals who exemplify the spirit of civic engagement and community service — those who go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of others. Tricia truly embodies that spirit.

Her calm, decisive action and compassion reflect the very best of our community. DePaul Services and its dedicated staff continue to make a lasting difference through their commitment to providing supportive housing, care, and connection for residents across our region.

Rian and Audrey de Wit
Few milestones are as meaningful as earning the rank of Eagle Scout, and even fewer families can celebrate it the way the de Wit family has. Siblings Rian and Audrey de Wit of Livingston County each achieved Scouting’s highest honor, continuing a proud family tradition that began with their grandfather, also an Eagle Scout. Gerrard Crofoot
For his Eagle Scout project, Gerrard Crofoot transformed what was once a thicket of weeds and brush into a trail, fire pit, and outdoor meeting space at his local Masonic Lodge. Through hard work, vision, and teamwork, he created a beautiful gathering place where neighbors can come together. Gerrard credited the many local businesses that donated or discounted materials and the community members who gave their time, tools, and effort — a true testament to what can be achieved when people unite for the common good. Max Kozak
Max Kozak’s Eagle Project focused on rehabilitating and enhancing the memorial area at American Legion Post 283. He installed a new paver stone border and wall, built a pathway from the parking lot to the flags, and refreshed the white stone display surrounding the American flag and the flags of each service branch.
