Updates from the office of Senator Jabari Brisport

Hello Neighbor,

If you have unpaid property taxes, water bills, or other city charges, your home may be at risk of a “tax lien sale”!

A “tax lien sale” is when the city sells your debt to private investors, who can charge high interest or begin foreclosure proceedings.

On June 3rd, the City of New York will return to using this harmful practice for the first time since 2020.

From the Office of Sen. Jabari Brisport, District 25

The Tax Lien Sale puts our community in the hands of Wall Street investors and predatory debt collectors. While we fight to abolish the Tax Lien Sale, there are some urgent steps you can take to protect your home and get off the tax lien sale list.

Join the fight to abolish tax lien sales

The steps you can take to protect your home and get off the tax lien sale list include:

  • Pay your bill if possible
  • Get on a payment plan
  • Apply for an exemption
  • Apply for an “Easy Exit”
  • Submit an Emergency Repair Certification
