Our American flag has long stood as a symbol of freedom and a beacon of hope for millions. As such, it should be treated with respect and dignity even after it has become weather-worn.
Recently the state announced that ahead of the Memorial Day holiday, there will be a statewide collection of worn or tattered American flags happening now through May 23, 2018.
I am happy to announce that to help with this initiative, my District Office, located at 4254 Albany Post Road in Hyde Park, will serve as an additional collection site. Our office is open Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am until 5:00pm.
The Office of General Services will be responsible for collecting the worn flags at various locations throughout the state. Once the collection is complete, the worn flags will be properly disposed of as a part of the Memorial Watchfire Ceremony which is hosted by Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 103. I hope that you will join me in in this important initiative, and I encourage you to share this message with friends and family who may also wish to participate.
