We've got some important deadlines and events for you this week! The last day to change your voter party affiliation is February 14 if you want to participate in the 2020 primary, and we're hosting low-income tax prep sessions in our office through April!

As a friendly reminder, these bulletins are sent out at the beginning of every week with events throughout the community. Events that our office is hosting will have an image of Senator Myrie.

Grow Brooklyn's low-income tax prep assistance is now available in our office! Every Monday and Thursday from 2:00 - 8:00 pm at our District Office. Make an appointment by calling (347) 682-5606 or clicking "Flatbush @ Office of State Senator Myrie" here.

Pre-K and 3-K Applications Open: The DOE will begin accepting pre-K and 3-K applications on February 5. NYC families with children born in 2016 can apply to pre-K, and families with children born in 2017 can apply to 3-K. Learn more about your pre-K or 3-K options and how to apply at an upcoming information session. Dates, times, and locations can be found here. Questions? February 14 is the last day to change your voter party affiliation! To vote in any party's 2020 primary, you must be registered in that party by February 14. Check your registration status here and that you're registered in a party you want to vote for during the primary. Update your party affiliation by using the NYS voter registration website with a state ID or download a printable registration form here. The Board of Elections must receive your registration form by February 14 - not postmarked by then. Questions? Call our office at 718-284-4700 or drop by to pick up a form.

TICKETS ADDED: Senator Myrie's first State of the District Address is on Sunday, February 23rd from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at the Brooklyn Library Central Branch! Hear about the progress we've made so far and our agenda for the work ahead. There will be food, performances, an opportunity to take a picture with Senator Myrie, and more! NYLAG's Mobile Legal Help Center will be hosting free legal assistance hours in Sunset Park at the Office of City Council Member Carlos Menchaca on the following Wednesdays: February 26 and March 25. Make an appointment online.

We're hosting our second free legal clinic with the Metropolitan Black Bar Association on Thursday, February 27 from 6-8PM. If you need legal advice, call our office at 718-284-4700 to book a slot during this clinic. Location to be determined.

We're having our first Get Out the Count Census Canvass in Crown Heights with Assemblymember Diana C. Richardson and Community Board 9! Join us on Saturday, February 29 for a three-hour shift from 10:00AM - 4:00PM. Sign up here.

Get your Associate's Degree for free at the Library with Bard's new MicroCollege! Bard College and the Brooklyn Public Library are launching a college degree program that will bring high-quality liberal arts education to Brooklynites who have previously been excluded or deterred from higher education. There is no cost to students. More info/apply here.

The NYC DYCD Ladders for Leaders program is currently accepting applications for their 2020 summer internship program. NYC youth residents between 16-21 years of age who are enrolled in high school or college with at least a minimum GPA of 3.00 are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have prior work or volunteer experience and must be legally allowed to work in NYC. More info/application here.

The Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership's Scholarship & Internship Program applications are open to current undergraduate and graduate students of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander descent. The paid internship program places students within the public sector in the Washington, DC area or across the country in the Public Service Field internship program, while Public Service Scholarships are offered to students who will complete unpaid public service internships in the DC area. Penguin Random House Creative Writing Awards in partnership with We Need Diverse Books is looking for high school seniors to submit original poetry, memoir/personal essay, fiction/drama, and spoken-word compositions. Applications are due March 2, 2020 at 3PM CT or when 900 applications have been received. More info here.

APAICS is currently accepting Youth Leadership Academy applications through March 2, 2020! Asian American and Pacific Islander high shcoolers will particiate in a week-long program that includes interactive leadership development sessions, guest speakers, and networking opportunities with prominent AAPI leaders and Congressional leaders in Washington, DC. A limited number of scholarships are available for students from low-income households. Apply here.

OCA-UPS Gold Mountain Scholarship of $2,000 for Asian American and Pacific Islander high school seniors who are the first in their family to attend an institution of higher education. Deadline to apply is April 13, 2020 at 11:59 PM PST at https://www.ocanational.org/gold-mountain-scholarship

The Betancourt Macias Family Scholarship Foundation is accepting applications for ALL undocumented students, regardless of DACA eligibility and do not have GPA nor volunteer/club involvement requirements. All scholarships are $1,000 and applications are due by May 1, 2020 at 11:59PM. More info/apply here.
