67th Precinct Clergy Council's Convo on Gun Violence: The Devastating Consequences of Urban Violence and a Bold New Plan For Peace in the Streets: Tuesday, December 17th, 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Brookdale Hospital's Khan Auditorium. Thomas Abt, senior fellow at Harvard Kennedy School and author of Bleeding Out, will join moderator Pastor Gil Monrose to share his insights into gun violence prevent strategies. Register here.
Our Holiday Toy Drive goes through December 18 and we're looking for new, unwrapped gifts for our toy giveaway at Full Gospel Assembly on December 21st. Drop off toys at our district office, Mondays through Thursdays from 10AM-6PM and Fridays from 10AM-3PM.
Sunset Park Toy Drive: Community Board 7 is collecting new and unwrapped toys and clothing for children up to age 16 until December 18. Donations can be dropped off at 4201 4th Avenue (entrance on 43rd Street) from Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. For more info call CB7's office at 718-854-0003 or email@example.com.
Census Job Fair: Sunset Park 5th Ave BID will be hosting a Census Job Fair on December 19 & 20 from 4-7PM at 5116A 5th Avenue, Brooklyn, 11220.
Brooklyn Defender Services Toy Drive and Community Event (with free food & legal help!): Parents with children in need of toys should call their Community Office at 646-971-2722 with the child’s age and a parent's contact info to reserve a toy. The Toy Drive event will be at their Community Office (566 Livonia Ave, Brooklyn, NY) on Saturday, December 21st, 10 am. On the day of the event, families will pick up toys on and will enjoy free food, music, community mingling with like aged children and legal advice from staff.
Visión Futuro 2nd Annual Special Christmas Celebration will be this Saturday, December 21 from 10:30AM-1:45PM at St. Michael's Church (352 42nd Street, Brooklyn, NY 11232). Join the community for food, face painting, arts and crafts, and musical performances!
Empire Cruises' Christmas Toy Drive Cruise: Empire Cruises is hosting its second Christmas Toy Drive on Saturday, December 21st at the Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park. They'll gift bundles of joy to underprivileged children in our community. Register, find more info, or sign up to volunteer here.
We still have rain barrels at our district office! Come pick one up at your convenience. As a reminder, our office is open from Monday through Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
We're partnering with AHRC NYC and other organizations for the MLK Food Drive! Canned and boxed goods should not be expired, dented, or rusted, and can be donated at our district office. There will also be a MLK Jr. Day of Service to combat hunger on January 20, 2020 from 10AM-2PM at PS 241 (976 President Street, Brooklyn, NY 11225). RSVP to MLKday@ahrcnyc.org.
Hiring NYC Parks Lifeguards: NYC Parks is looking for people with strong swimming skills to serve as lifeguards through the summer. Most lifeguards work 48 hours each week, for a weekly salary of up to $800. More info.

Neighborhood Grants of up to $3,000: Citizens Committee for New York City is now accepting applications from volunteer-led groups for our Neighborhood Grants program, which provides up to $3,000 for community improvement projects. Due January 20th. More info at the link here.
APIA Scholars is currently accepting scholarship applications from Asian Pacific Islander American students. Scholarships range from one-time $2,500 to multi-year $20,000 awards. More info/eligibility and application here. Due January 22, 2020.
The Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund is now accepting applications for their 2020 Summer Internship Program in Washington, DC for Sikh students who aspire to work in government. More info/apply here.
The Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program at the University of Washingon is designed for students who want to pursue their passion for nature conservation and environmental justice. Applicants should be first year or sophomores at four-year colleges (two-year college students will be considered if there is demonstration of transfer in Fall 2020). The Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership's Scholarship & Internship Program applications are open to current undergraduate and graduate students of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander descent. The paid internship program places students within the public sector in the Washington, DC area or across the country in the Public Service Field internship program, while Public Service Scholarships are offered to students who will complete unpaid public service internships in the DC area. Penguin Random House Creative Writing Awards in partnership with We Need Diverse Books is looking for high school seniors to submit original poetry, memoir/personal essay, fiction/drama, and spoken-word compositions.
